A Visit to Monorail and Metro for the Students of STD. I to IV
In the month of July, students of Stds. I to IV were taken on a fieldtrip to new ambitious projects that are part of major expansion of public transport in Mumbai Suburbs. The Eastern Freeway, the Monorail from Chembur to Wadala and the Versova - Ghatkopar Metro Corridor, have changed the way Mumbai commutes.

The excursion began in Penguin Holidays ROYAL VINTAGE and ORIENT EXPRESS buses that drove on the Eastern Freeway, a controlled-access highway in Mumbai which connects South Mumbai to the Eastern Express Highway at Ghatkopar.

The children had a joyride in the Monorail. The excitement of the children knew no bounds when they entered the air-conditioned train at Wadala. It took around 20 minutes and covered seven stations. They also took a return journey and visited the BEST Museum at Wadala Depot. Located right beside the BEST mascot was a huge exhibit which featured scaled representations of all the bus depots in Mumbai. The walls were covered with old photographs and cuttings that were properly medaled with names and designations. A representative narrated the evolution of the BEST buses and the trams during yester years.

After delicious lunch at Phoenix Marketcity Mall, children visited the Mumbai Metro, India's first public private partnership metro project which connects Versova, Andheri in the Western Suburbs to Ghatkopar in the Eastern Suburbs, covering a distance of 11.4 km. It is fully elevated, and consists of 12 stations. The Railway escorts at the stations extended their full support in the crowed hours of the daytime and ensured the safety of our children.

Children returned to school having witnessed the changing face of Mumbai, eager to share their experiences with their parents.
