Hongkong Trip
"The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page." – St. Augustine.

The International tour of the HFS, Thane was arranged from October 8th to 13th 2010. Forty five students from Std. VI to IX accompanied by four teachers visited Hong Kong, one of the leading entertainment hubs of the world.

Hong Kong is frequently described as a place where "East meets West", reflecting the cultural mix of the indigenous Chinese roots with influences from its time as a British colony. Hong Kong balances a modernized way of life with traditional Chinese practices.

During the tour we visited Wetland Park, Disneyland, the Victoria Peak, the Ocean Park and the famous Buddha at Lantau Island. Our stay in a luxurious Harbour Palaza Resort City Hotel made us feel so comfortable that we really treasured it as our Home away from home.

Day one, we enjoyed the Peak Tram ride to Victoria Peak. With some seven million visitors every year, the Peak is a major tourist attraction of Hong Kong. It offers spectacular views of the city and its harbours. Two major leisure and shopping centres, the Peak Tower and the Peak Galleria, situated adjacent to each other led students to indulge in a shopping spree. Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum was truly a delight for the students as they posed with all the eminent personalities and captured those exciting moments in their cameras. The highlight of the evening was the city tour with Symphony of Lights, a laser display on a cruise that was spectacular.

Located at the northern part of Tin Shui Wai, the site of Hong Kong Wetland Park was originally intended to be an ecological mitigation area (EMA) to compensate for the wetlands lost due to Tin Shui Wai New Town development. The 61-hectare Hong Kong Wetland Park demonstrates the diversity of the Hong Kong's wetland ecosystem and highlights the need to conserve them. It presents an opportunity to provide an educational and recreational venue with a theme on the functions and values of wetlands for use by local residents and overseas visitors.

Students thoroughly enjoyed their second day visit to this Park, realizing the importance of preservation of the natural resource of the country.

The third day of the tour was a full day excursion at the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort. It brings the magic of a world-class entertainment experience to people of all ages. Hong Kong is home to the fifth Disney Resort in the world and the city's landscape and vibrant, diverse culture have inspired their Imaginers to create a variety of entertainment that is unique to Hong Kong Disneyland Resort. The students unanimously declared it as a highpoint of the tour.

On the fourth day we were taken to yet another amusement park called The Ocean Park. It is a marine mammal park with 19 rides, including two roller coasters. It also houses 11 animal exhibits, such as a giant panda habitat, a jelly fish and Chinese sturgeon aquarium, as well as a four-story aquarium displaying more than 2,000 fish.

On the last day of our tour, we visited the Tian Tan Buddha. Also known as the Big Buddha, it is a large bronze statue of a Buddha, completed in 1993, and is located at Ngong Ping, Lantau Island, in Hong Kong. The statue is located near Po Lin Monastery and symbolizes the harmonious relationship between man and nature, people and religion. It is a major centre of Buddhism in Hong Kong, and is also a popular tourist attraction. We truly were one with nature and captured the entire group of students and the staff with the imposing Buddha in the background.

Sumptuous Indian food in different Indian restaurants kept us content and fit for a busy day out, every day.

We returned with beautiful memories of this trip to Hong Kong wishing yet another one for the next year, each of us naming various heritage sites and multi-ethnic countries with a mosaic of myriad cultures.
