Trek to Bedse Caves
Fleecy clouds rolling on our feet, lush green fields in different hues of green giving us a glimpse of the beautiful country of "Ours".
Farmers tending the harvest of rice. A small village school comprising of two rooms, one of them being a class room for the first, second, third and fourth standard children all being taught by one teacher was a touching sight. It however made us happy too that education is slowly reaching the remote villages of our country.
Bedse Caves was the destination of 273 children of standard V and VI of H.F.S. The climb to the caves was gradual. The gradient started getting steep very gradually and after climbing 1200 steps we reached the Buddhist Caves that can be traced to 1st Century. These caves took us back in time carved in one single rock, had rooms carved at the outset of the vihara in the caves that housed the monks in the 1st century.
The caves projected an aura of simplicity, innocence, frugality and absolute raw honesty. However the crusader was an old man, the caretaker of the caves who took it upon himself to preserve the caves keep them immaculate and neat for climbers like us to appreciate.
He gave a very meaningful message to all of us that it is up to us to keep our environment clean and to preserve our environment it takes very little.
After spending a couple of hours at the caves we made our descent ,having learnt remarkable lessons that joy is indeed a state of mind, viewing the greenery , watching the rivulets full of water made our heart skip a beat.
